Description

Safe System has a vision for a road traffic system which is free from death and serious injury. It involves a shift from trying to prevent all collisions to preventing death and mitigating serious injury in road traffic collisions, a problem which is largely preventable based on current knowledge.

Safe System approaches typically aim to develop a road transport system that is better able to accommodate human error by providing a safe operating environment – despite human fallibility – and providing effective post-crash care

The aim of this partnership is to develop a Safe System Star Rating module in iRAP’s online software VIDA to produce a clear and consistent approach for ‘zero harm’ by a target date.

Part of this work will be defining Safe System cross-sections with different movement functions together, also with trigger sets to produce investment plans for transformative treatments. This is in combination with a back-casting approach for what the vehicle and speeds also need to be for a zero harm by a set target date.
