BIGRS IndiaRAP Webinar (4-part series) – World Bank and iRAP helping save lives on Indian roads

We hope you are staying healthy and safe during this difficult time with COVID19. Keeping the mind busy at the moment is important, especially if you are self isolated/social distancing at home. The good news is that we are committed to sharing knowledge through our online courses which you can participate in from wherever you are in the world.

With support from the Bloomberg Philanthropies under the BIGRS 2020-2025, the World Bank’s GRSF and iRAP have partnered to deliver periodic learning events on the iRAP methodology. Every webinar series put in the spotlight a country with significant road safety lessons to be shared.

DESCRIPTION: This BIGRS IndiaRAP webinar series was delivered in June 2020 to help building capacity of road authorities around the world interested in the iRAP methodology to eliminate high-risk roads, unlock the economic benefits of 3-star or better roads through results-based financing, and meet global SDG and UN Target obligations.

The focus of this webinar was on the road safety experience and lessons learned in India, presenting how the local program– IndiaRAP was created, and the safety assessments that were conducted across the country.


Four part series was delivered with the following contente:

Day 1 (Tues 02 June) – Introduction to BIGRS and iRAP

-The Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety
-Road Safety in India: World Bank perspective
-iRAP and the global context; UN Global Road Safety Performance Targets
-iRAP Safety Assessments in India

Day 3 (Tues 09 June) – Introduction to ViDA

-How to access results in ViDA
-View Star Ratings and Safer Roads Investment Plan, download files for detail investigation

Day 4 (Thurs 11 June) – How road authorities can conduct iRAP safety assessments

-How road authorities in India are using iRAP assessments to make roads safer
-Setting targets, Star Rating of Designs, UN Global Road Safety Targets
-How to procure iRAP services
-iRAP accredited suppliers, Terms of Reference, Training and Accreditation.


This online training was being supported by the World Bank’s Global Road Safety Facility (GRSF) under the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) and is in continuation of GRSF and World Bank’s active engagement with various State Public Works Departments, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and National Highways Authority of India, including under the BIGRS 2015-2019.
