University Learning Materials

We have prepared about an hour’s worth of lecture material about iRAP in MS PowerPoint slides and a 5-minute video.  The material may be requested from Dr Steve Lawson so that university teaching staff may give students a flavour for the background to iRAP and how it operates.  This may then lead to student projects and to developing research interests.  Students in many countries have been following up interests in road safety in this way.

This material is Copyright and is provided for the benefit of lecturers and their students.  It may be freely used for non-commercial purposes, teaching and for private study, providing the source is acknowledged.  Copyright © 2010 International Road Assessment Programme.

Training courses on the iRAP methodology have run at several venues around the world since 2010 and iRAP material is routinely provided to conferences, seminars and as lecture material to students at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The characteristics of such material and the learning outcomes are likely to be recognised as of a standard contributing to a Masters-level qualification. (Background on such qualification is provided in the UK by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education: http://www.qaa.ac.uk/Publications/InformationAndGuidance/Documents/MastersDegreeCharacteristics.pdf)

The iRAP 5-day residential course has received accreditation from Middlesex University.  With assessment, the one week course on its own earns 10 credits at Level 7 (180 required for the MSc – see the QAA link above), or when combined with further study, as Module 1, it earns 30 credits.  With Module 2, the project work, a further 30 credits may be earned.  The iRAP course is free-standing and can be run anywhere.

iRAP has been exploring options for incorporating the iRAP course within other university MSc programmes.  This may include credit recognition of the iRAP 5-day course or incorporation of the iRAP content into an existing programme.
